Program Goals

Evergreen West’s program goals and services will be accomplished through implementation of procedures into daily routines, the curriculum design, encouraging staff interaction with residents, and by providing a warm, positive and caring atmosphere. Through on-going training, staff members will be knowledgeable of and will implement all aspects of the program goals of Evergreen West with the focus on enhancing the capabilities of each program participant.

Expected service outcome of the Evergreen West program include:

  • Residents develop positive social/emotional interactions with their peers through training and modeling the skills in regular activities by encouraging friendships, sharing, opportunities to help others and positively cooperate with peers and staff.

  • Residents learn to make choices regarding their activities of daily living at home, at day programs, and within the community by staff’s efforts to offer opportunities to make independent decisions that would be encouraged and praised.

  • Residents to question, explore and change inappropriate/disruptive behaviors or self injurious behaviors with reducing the likelihood of the behaviors recurring by using relaxation training, redirecting, adjusting the environment, reward system and praise for good behavior.

  • Residents develop respect for others through defining and modeling respect for all in the home.

  • Resident’s develop personal care and self-help/independent life skills through staff training, through daily activities that enhance self-advocacy, personal care/safety, budgeting/money management, shopping, cooking, cleaning, managing chores, effective communication, writing, information access and technology, mobility/travel.

  • Residents developing enhanced physical coordination and mobility through positive reinforcement and effective and appropriate teaching strategies such as M.A.T.C.H: Modify the Task, Alter your Expectations, Teach Strategies, Change the Environment, Help by Understanding during therapeutic physical activities.

  • Residents develop skills and interests (based on personal choice) that will enable them to become a productive and functional citizen in society.
